A woman I work with just gave birth to a baby who was born with a two vessel umbilical cord instead of a three vessel cord. The mother doesn't seem very concerned. What are the chances of there being something wrong with the baby? What type of long term things could be wrong with the baby?

This happens. Usually, there are no other problems, but when it's noticed by ultrasound, other studies are done (via ultrasound) to look for congenital anomalies. If you friend was going to an obstetrician and had her baby at a hospital, more than likely this event prompted all of the right investigations, and assuming Mom and baby went home O.K., then this is not a problem.
