Q&A: Is it a risk to travel after IVF implantation?

by Dr. Gerard M. DiLeo

I will soon have completed the implantation stage of IVF. My office has asked me to attend a meeting in California (I live in North Dakota) just three weeks after the implantation. Is that too soon to be flying and attending long meetings?

No, unless your doctor puts you at bedrest for some reason. The biggest problem is while in the air. You are a higher miscarriage risk with IVF, and although you're not doomed if one begins in the air, it won't be pleasant waiting to land. I wouldn't take a long flight until your doctor clears you of any heightened miscarriage vigilance.
