August 20, 2007: Toys 'R' Us Vinyl Bib Recall
Toys 'R' Us is recalling more than 160,000 vinyl bibs due to possible high levels of lead. The potentially toxic bibs were marketed under the Koala Baby, Especially for Baby, and Disney Baby labels, and manufactured for the company by Hamco Baby Products.
The "world's leading specialty toy retailer," Toys 'R' Us announced on August 17, 2007, that it is voluntarily removing all vinyl baby bibs manufactured by Hamco, Inc., from Toys 'R' Us and Babies 'R' Us stores due to the possibility of potentially containing high levels of lead.
Recall Reason
A Toys 'R' Us spokesperson reports that the contamination level was high enough to violate the safety standards of the store, but not those of the federal government. (Concerns are over babies chewing on the potentially toxic bibs.)
The Consumer Products Safety Commission, the nation's resource for protecting families against unsafe products, has not added these bibs to its recall list. "Parents shouldn't be alarmed," Julie Vallese, a spokeswoman for the commission, said to the New York Times.
This bib recall follows several Fisher-Price toy recalls, also due to unsafe amounts of lead. (Learn more about the dangers of childhood lead poisoning.)

The recalled vinyl bibs were sold to Toys 'R' Us by Hamco and marketed under the Koala Baby, Especially for Baby, and Disney Baby labels. No markings or other identifying qualities have been released at this date.
Who to Contact
The company said that customers who wish to return vinyl bibs purchased at any time from a Toys 'R' Us or Babies 'R' Us store may do so and receive a full refund. For questions or additional information, customers may call 1-800-869-7787.
