Kiddie Music That Won't Give You a Headache (Hurrah!)
Don’t get me wrong... I have nothing against that farmer Old McDonald. And I actually adore “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star” in small doses. I can even tolerate a few verses of “The Wheels on the Bus.” But, my little gals love a rockin’ dance party, and thus, music is playing quite a bit at my house. I simply HAVE to change it up every now and again. Thank goodness there are plenty of kiddie music options out there that are truly “family-friendly” (ie; won’t give you a throbbing headache). How about making some updates to your summer playlist?

The Itty Biddies
In true NYC fashion, I first met Deidre (far left) from The Itty Biddies while riding the subway in Brooklyn. I’ve so enjoyed watching their success since our first meeting, and can vouch for the fact that their live show is rockin’ (in fact, it was my older daughter’s 1st concert!). Their smooth harmonies and fun, upbeat music will put a smile on your face AND your child’s.

I love this story… Frances England created her debut cd as a fundraiser for her child’s school, never thinking that anyone other than family and friends would hear it. Thanks to the power of word-of-mouth and social media, England is leading the way in kiddie music you can actually enjoy as much as your kids.

I have to admit I partially love this band for 2 non-music reasons: 1) I think the name is hilarious and 2) they live in my home state of South Carolina. And now that we have that out of the way… Lunch Money is an energetic mix of sounds and will get everyone up on their feet (and not heading for the door!)

I love Helen Austin’s voice… so sweet and pure. Her background, which began in classical music and stand up comedy, makes for an entertaining combo. And here’s the secret, Helen Austin isn’t exclusively a children’s music performer… but shhh, that can be just between us!

I love a little reggae music, and I’m so glad that Ziggy Marley came out with the album “Family Time.” It’s the perfect music to play when everyone needs a little “chill out” time… and at our house, that’s at least once a day!

Charlie Hope grew up singing with her sister, but her unique take on children’s music comes as a result of her art therapy degree and years of babysitting. Love that! Her voice is sweet and soulful, and we love listening to her, especially as bedtime draws near.
