Great Baby Shower Gifts Checklist

by Brenda Stokes

Many times, expecting parents will set up a registry for their baby shower to ensure they receive favorite necessities and so their friends and family don't give the same gifts. However, sometimes these lists are so practical, they're devoid of any fun or creativity. Infuse some out-of-the-box thinking into your next baby shower gift with our must-haves, fantastic finds, and traditional (but still nice!) choices. Happy shopping!

Essentials

Photography gift basket or certificate No doubt a new mother will want to capture every moment possible of her newborn's life. That's why a photo session for her and baby is such a great gift. Or, you can create your own gift basket with film (unless the parents-to-be are using digital), picture frames, and a gift certificate for purchasing prints.

Time alone New parents can barely find enough time in the day to sleep, let alone go out on a date or share a romantic evening in. Give them a gift certificate for a restaurant that delivers, a free video rental, a small box of popcorn, and a fun board game.

Ready-to-go meals Moms and dads need nutritious meals to stay healthy and energized, but they can be so bogged down with the new baby that cooking meals is out of the question. Cook or freeze yummy homemade dinners for the family for a few nights.

Cleaning service It seems the chores are endless with a little one around. You can help lighten the load by paying for a maid for a week or two. Now, Mom and Dad can actually nap when the baby naps, rather than do the laundry or cook meals.

Bank savings A thoughtful gift is to open a savings account for the new baby. Whether you open an account or invest in a mutual fund or savings bond, setting aside funds for college or contributing to other child expenses are sure to be a gift parents will appreciate.

Baby book New parents love to keep track of every little baby-related milestone. That's why a baby book is such a great gift. Be sure to include all of the essentials with the book, like double-faced photo tape, glue, craft scissors, and some decorative scrapbooking backgrounds.
