Celebrating Kwanzaa

Invite your child to paint the entire cardboard wreath with red or green poster paint. When the paint dries, have your child (or the entire family) make handprints on the wreath. You can do this by brushing your hands with black-colored paint and pressing your hands down firmly on the board. Make handprints in a circular fashion around the wreath.

For another option, trace your family's hands on stiff, colored construction paper. Cut these out, decorate the hands if you wish, and glue them around the circle.

Create a fashionable bow from fabric, crepe paper, large ribbons, or construction paper to garnish the bottom. Make sure to write the date on the back of this memorable project.

Celebration Logs

Celebrate Kwanzaa with pretzel sticks adorned with sprinkles in colors of the season.

Collect a bag of pretzel sticks, chocolate chips (brown or white), colored baking sprinkles (green, red, and black), and waxed paper. Melt the chocolate in a double boiler or in a glass bowl in the microwave. Dunk the pretzels halfway into the chocolate, then roll them in a dish of sprinkles. Let your celebration logs cool on a sheet of waxed paper.
