A Massage and More: A fantastic way to care for your pregnant sweetheart is by treating her to a day at the spa. Special pampering will nurture her emotional and physical needs. If you don't have a spa in your area that specializes in prenatal massage, your loved one will still relish being treated to a manicure, pedicure, and fresh haircut. OR treat her to an extra-special, at-home massage from you! If a "day out" is out of reach financially, turn your home into a spa and pamper mom-to-be until she's a pile of mush!
Encourage Her to Feel Included: Doing appreciative things for the mommy-to-be is great, but doesn't have a lot of impact if she doesn't recognize her own significance on Mother's Day. Help her set the day as something truly special "by nurturing herself mind, body, and soul," says Douglas. What does this mean exactly? Encourage her to let go and celebrate! Mother's Day is a day meant for her—an expectant mother—and all other mothers in the world. Once she knows this, her very first Mother's Day is bound to be an exciting and memorable one as you both make the journey into parenthood.
Above all else, remember to make your pregnant loved one the center of attention. This isn't a day to give her baby clothes or the like—instead, treat her to something she enjoys or just let her know you love her. Don't forget to invite her closest friends and family along for her very first Mother's Day as an expecting mom. "It's nice to have others join you in celebrating that rite of passage," says Douglas. And that's exactly what she should do—celebrate! Mother's Day is her day after all.
