Sharing Your Heart on Valentine's Day

by Jennifer Lacey

Taking a trip down to your local library or video store is another guaranteed winner to set up the proper mood for the holiday. Viewing classics such as Lady and the Tramp, Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid, The Parent Trap (the original with Maureen O'Hara and Brian Keith or the remake with Natasha Richardson and Dennis Quaid), or if your children are in the toddler set, cartoons such as Be My Valentine, Charlie Brown, Clifford, Be My Big Red Valentine, or Barney, Be My Valentine may provide your little ones with a wealth of Valentine enjoyment.

Create Tempting Treats with Your Sweets

Chocolate-covered anything will elicit smiles galore from children and adults alike. For a delectable dessert that will please even your finicky eaters, try making different fondues out of dark, milk, semi-sweet, or white chocolate, and serve with freshly cut fruit, marshmallows, or a sampling of cookie favorites. For other delicious sweet treats to end a meal, try a heart-shaped cake, a giant cookie, or cupcakes frosted with a simple vanilla icing colored with red food coloring. Let your kids add whatever yummy decorations they like—they'll love shaking on colorful jimmies or placing red heart gumdrops on cupcake tops!

Any way you choose to share your heart with your children will show them how much you love them and create special memories that will last a lifetime.
