A playgroup is an organized affair that requires a little attention to detail. Here is a step-by-step guide to get you started.
Determine What You (the Parent) Want From a Playgroup
- Do you want time off? If so, designing a co-operative play group is for you. This type of situation combines a play group setting with rotating childcare.
- Do you want to socialize with other parents? In this case, your toddler attends the program with you. You can socialize with the other parents while the children play.
Decide How Many Children Should be Involved
A group of four to six children works well for toddlers.
Look for Compatible Parents
You don't need to be best friends with your playgroup partners, but it helps if you're like-minded in your parenting styles. Looking for the right parents is key to creating a compatible, happy group of toddlers. Try setting up a couple of trial sessions to get a feel for everyone's chemistry.
If you don't know of enough parents of toddlers, try spending a little more time at your nearest park or play area; you're bound to meet parents interested in a playgroup.
